When setting up your first jewellery shop to sell jewellery, the first step is choosing the right jewellery marketplace platform for your online shop. Learn more about eCommerce marketplaces here.

Once you have selected your preferred marketplace platform, it’s time to start putting together your branding. Unfortunately, however, you don’t have access to adding a banner for your online shop. However, some marketplaces like eBay let you add your business logo for your profile picture. Having an attractive, high-quality banner, logo and visuals for your marketplace page or site makes your site look more professional and appealing to customers.

Step Two: About Page

Then you want to ensure your business’ about page. The about page tells your customers more about your business and its history in selling jewellery products. You can use the about page for testimonials and reviews. If your business is smaller or you work alone, include personal details like what inspires you or your business began. Let your customers know about the unique selling points of your jewellery, like where you source your materials for your jewellery or if the company is family-owned.

Step Three: Consistency

Being visually consistent is essential in putting together multiple jewellery marketplace listings on your product listings. Using different lighting or angles for your product photography can look unprofessional and clunky in customers’ eyes. White background packshots work best for these initial images as they appear more consistent and focus on the product. The focus on the development is critical as your potential customers will scan the page very quickly, and customers will ignore any images with busy backgrounds as they are harder to see. Keep those lifestyle shots for additional photos or banners as they are beneficial when utilised correctly.

Step Four: Photographs

Photographs are the first element that people browsing product listings will see. First impressions are vital; this is why you need to ensure your photos are of the highest quality so they can attract your potential customer’s attention. Jewellery pieces are often heavily detailed and intricate, and these elements can quickly lose these elements.

If you don’t have experience photographing jewellery professionally, hiring a professional jewellery photographer can make all the difference. By hiring a professional, you can ensure all of your shots are consistent and of the best quality, they can be. Not only is this a good idea for Shopify accounts it can also make your jewellery stand out on eBay. On eBay, customers are used to seeing phone camera photos with untidy backgrounds; these images will help your jewellery listing stand out.

Step Five: Additional Images

Be sure to include more than one image of your piece if your product is a necklace, showcase the chain and clasp in more detail or pick up on the intricacy of the pendant.

Model and lifestyle images are perfect for showing the relative size of the product as dimensions can sometimes be confusing to visualise. For example, displaying a necklace on a model can showcase how the pendant sits or the length of the chain. Or showing earrings on a model can show how the decorative part sits or hangs from the ear.

Close-up photos allow the customer to see intricate details like smaller gemstones or engravings and prevent them from being overlooked.

Step Six: Descriptions

Don’t leave anything out. If your jewellery is second hand or vintage, do not leave any details about the damage and wear and tear; neglecting these details can lead to a higher returns rate and damage that relationship with buyers. On the other hand, vintage collectors and buyers know what they’re in for when buying second hand, so it’s not wrong to include the pieces’ faults. Additionally, you can even show these faults with additional photos.

You should use bullet points in your descriptions to make it easier to pick out essential information and improve readability. Include necessary details like the measurements, materials, and product size. In addition, include your unique selling points, for instance, if you sustainably source your gemstones or utilise interesting manufacturing processes.
